Eliot was called to the bar in 2018 and has a broad practice in commercial, public, and employment law. He has particular expertise in representative proceedings.
Eliot appears led and unled in the Federal and NSW Supreme Courts, as well as appearing unled in lower courts and tribunals. Recent appearances include:
- Acting for group members in shareholder class actions brought in the Federal Court against GetSwift Ltd, BHP Limited and Forge Group Ltd (in Liq).
- Acting for group members in a class action brought against AMP Limited and associated companies in respect of life insurance premiums and commissions.
- Appearing in a four-week trial in the NSW Supreme Court concerning a dispute about the ownership and control of Australia’s largest privately-held insurance broker.
- Acting for a legal practitioner in two successful appeals to the NSW Court of Appeal against findings of professional misconduct.
He also regularly provides advice to parties on commercial and employment disputes.
Before coming to bar, Eliot practiced as a solicitor in Sydney, Melbourne and London, specialising in class actions, financial services litigation and other complex commercial disputes.
Eliot holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons I) from Sydney University and a Master of Laws (Distinction) from University College London.
