Today, in WorkPac Pty Ltd v Rossato [2021] HCA 23, the High Court of Australia unanimously allowed an appeal concerning the nature of casual employment and the importance of written contracts of employment. The High Court made it clear that the true character of an employment relationship is governed by enforceable contractual obligations, and not by mere hopes or expectations.
