About 5 Wentworth

5 Wentworth was founded by Sir Garfield Barwick in 1932, and is now the longest established chambers in Sydney.

Since then, it has been noted for the range and depth of its members’ practices.

Today, it has particular strength in banking and finance, commercial, corporations, employment, intellectual property, public and securities law.

The chambers comprise six senior, and nineteen junior, counsel.

January 2012: Upcoming seminars

Gregory Burton SC will be the guest speaker at an upcoming seminar of the Commercial Law Association of Australia on Friday 23 March. The topic is Sahab Holdings Pty Ltd v Registrar-General & Anors. He will also give a Commercial Law Update at a Legalwise seminar to be held Friday 22 March.
December 2011: Largest successful prosecution in Australian industrial law

Ian Neil SC, appearing for the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner, obtained judgment from the Federal Court in Perth against more than 1300 respondents in United Group Resources Pty Ltd v Calabro (No 5) [2011] FCA 1408, in the largest successful prosecution in Australian industrial law.
September 2011: High-profile inquests continuing

James Gibson is currently representing Serco Australia in the inquests into the three deaths that occurred at Villawood detention centre between September and December 2010.
July 2011: Canberra Roadshow
